To Glorify And Enjoy God

The Westminster Assembly of Divines which convened in London in 1643 brought together a remarkable group of theologians and pastors whose united labours produced some of the most significant expositions of the Christian faith in the history of the church. The nobility of their great work, The Confession of Faith is matched only by the widespread influence their Shorter Catechism has had in shaping the life and character of generations who have learned it in early life. In addition, the Larger Catechism, the Form of Church Government and the Directory for Public Worship have all played their role in the formation of churches throughout the English-speaking world and beyond. To Glorify and Enjoy God provides a comprehensive introduction to the background, history, character and contributions of the Westminster Divines and their Assembly. It brings together in published form the addresses given in London in 1993 at an international conference celebrating the 350th anniversary of the convening of the Assembly at Westminster Abbey. Written by leading modern exponents of the theology of the Assembly, To Glorify and Enjoy God provides the most comprehensive guide available to one of the great gatherings of the Christian church. General readers, pastors, students, and teachers will alike find it both instructive and fascinating.
